We are living through challenging times, compounded by the divisive effects of a corrosive global and national political discourse. Forced displacement is at record high levels as migrants are driven from their homelands by war, political repression, and climate disaster. As individuals, it is difficult to feel that we have any influence on the trajectory of the world. And yet, the need to act has never been more urgent.
At Sheng-Yen Lu Foundation, we are privileged to witness the efforts of our grantee partners, who work and sacrifice every day to create a safer, healthier, and more unified future. The organizations and leaders that SYLF is honored to support are creating brighter futures for all our communities. Whether it is through advocating for systems change, confronting injustice, offering compassionate and culturally competent health care, or educating the next generation of leaders, our grantee partners are building a better world for all of us, and in turn, inspiring us to do the same. As we begin the new year, we will be thinking about actions we can take as individuals and as an organization – whether it is writing to a representative to advocate for just laws, speaking up to confront hate, or volunteering to create a welcoming community – to follow the example set for us by our grantees. We invite everyone to do the same.
As always, our profound gratitude goes to all our donors for the gifts which enable us to support this important work. We are humbled by the generosity that is definitely one of the “little bits of good” that can change the world.
