2025 was a heartbreaking year for all of us who believe that diversity is a source of strength, that equity is a moral calling, and that inclusion is how we honor the inherent dignity and worth of all human beings – regardless of national origin. As an organization committed to supporting front-line organizations that serve immigrants and refugees, Sheng-Yen Lu Foundation has witnessed the harms imposed on those who have newly arrived in our country. Like many of you, we feel grief and anger as we observe the demonization of people who we know bring gifts and talents to our communities, and watch valuable programs lose funding simply because they serve immigrants. However, much like our community partners, we at SYLF remain resilient and continue to use our platform to challenge false narratives, to help the most vulnerable in our communities, and to celebrate the contributions of immigrants and refugees. This year’s annual video, which we urge you to watch, details part of our work. In 2025, SYLF also:
- Increased our Rapid Response funding to help community partners meet emergency needs;
- Hosted sessions for community partners to build relationships and share joint strategies for navigating these difficult times;
- Provided funding to local organizations that build nonprofit organizational capacity and offer resources for growth, resilience, and renewal;
- Participated in local networks that encourage other funders to speak and act bravely;
- Launched a new funding stream that made planning grants to organizations who want to expand their advocacy efforts;
- Continued our Community-Led Grants programs in which we ask our trusted partners to identify newer, smaller organizations making a positive difference – and then provide them with funds without an application process; and
- Held three facilitated listening sessions with community partners so they could help guide the next years of SYLF’s work.
Please read our full report to learn more about what we accomplished this past year. In 2026 we will continue to build on our efforts and invite more people and organizations into our coalition. SYLF will be hosting more learning and networking sessions for community partners, rolling out new programs to address emerging issues, building nonprofit capacity, and using our voice to speak out for those with less privilege. - 增加我們的快速反應資金，以協助社區夥伴應對緊急需求;
- 舉辦社區夥伴交流會議以建立關係，並分享因應艱難時局的共同行動策略;
- 提供資金給在地組織以培養非營利夥伴的能力，並為其發展、保持堅韌;
- 參與在地網絡，以鼓勵其他基金會資助者勇敢發聲音並採取行動;
- 啟動新的資助項目，發放籌畫贈款給企圖擴大倡議事工的組織;
- 持續由社區領導的贈款計畫，計畫中我們先請信任的夥伴辨識並推薦較小較新但帶來積極影響的組織，接著我們在不要求申請程序的情況下，直接提供資金支助;
- 舉辦三次促進傾聽社區夥伴的活動，讓夥伴有機會協助引導盧勝彥佈施基金會明年的工作方向。
