Bellevue, WA – Sheng-Yen Lu Foundation (SYL Foundation) held a grant award ceremony on August 23rd, 2014 at Meydenbauer Convention Center attended by about 3,000 people. The Foundation awarded $257,500 to 16 nonprofit organizations that provide quality health care and education to underserved communities in the Seattle area.
The ten recipients of education grants were 826 Seattle, Arts Corps, Bellevue Schools Foundation, College Access Now, Community Day School Association, Renton Area Youth & Family Services, Seattle Education Access, Treehouse, Vietnamese Friendship Association and Year Up.
The six health care grant recipients were International Community Health Services (ICHS), Kin On Community Health Center, Medical Teams International, Neighborcare Health, Smile Partners, and Youth Eastside Services.
Since its creation six years ago, SYL Foundation has distributed over $1,500,000 in health and education grants, international disaster relief aid, and scholarships. This year’s grants fund programs that focus on:
- Early Childhood Education
- Access to post-secondary education
- Afterschool and enrichment programs for underserved & minority youth
- Uncompensated care at community health clinics
- Mobile dental programs that improve accessibility to oral health
- Health care for low-income families
