April 2, 2011 – Donation to American Red Cross for Japan

Speech by Fo-Ching Lu, President of Sheng-Yen Lu Foundation

To date, over 11,000 people have died and over 17,000 are still missing after the earthquake and tsunami hit Japan on March 11th.  The loss of life and destruction will undoubtedly impact Japan for years to come.  We, at Sheng-Yen Lu Foundation and all of us here, are profoundly moved by the devastation and suffering.  The founder of Sheng-Yen Lu Foundation and True Buddha School, Living Buddha Lian Sheng, has come forward with a major donation for Japan.  We thank him and all the True Buddha School donors worldwide for their support.  Today, we are proud to present a check in the amount of $50,000 USD to the American Red Cross to assist with its work in emergency relief in Japan.  This donation will help the Red Cross fund immediate relief activities such as providing supplies and medical care to the victims of the earthquake and tsunami.

It is a universal duty to assist others in times of need and we are glad to be doing our part.  I encourage everyone to keep the people of Japan in their hearts and prayers.  Let’s continue to do whatever we can to help.
